Deep and Funky, Vocal House Music.

Hailing from Glasgow a city well known and respected for it’s deep and underground house music, Derek has an unrivalled passion for all forms of proper house music. His influences stretch far and wide from the pure house sounds of Danny Rampling, CJ Macintosh, Rocky & Diesel and America’s Frankie Knuckles and Tony Humphries. However the foundation lay within the religious visits to Slam’s Friday night’s at the Arches and Club 69 when Mr Weatherall was in town.
As a DJ Derek won the Scottish Big Beat Mixing competition which landed him a permanent slot at October Café which at the time was one of the most elite in terms of music bars the city had to offer. Soon after Derek won the coveted Muzik magazine Bedroom Bedlam competition, which led to years of serious club gigs, complimenting the already well, established bar residencies throughout the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh that Derek held. It was in these infamous bars such as Glasgow’s Buddha and October Café and Edinburgh’s Pivo Café where he was found pushing his love for the deeper and more soulful side of all things house and earning a reputation as one of the most talented of young DJ’s on the circuit.
During the years of working around the club circuit Derek’s travels encapsulated gigs at some of the UK’s most respected clubs, such as Rhumba Club, Colours, Mas, Tall Trees, Sugarshack and GoodBye Cruel World. He has also played alongside some of the biggest names worldwide including John Digweed, Sharam Jay, Roger Sanchez, Boy George, Yousef, Steve Lawler and Radio 1′s Seb Fontaine to name but a few.
Now with his attention turned much more toward production using a studio built meticulously by himself over the last few years, Derek has been busy developing skills that will allow him to capture the sound of house music that he truly loves within his own productions. From deep and melodic house to funky US vibes and twisted progressive grooves, both the Perspex People project and his Sexual Deviants project, which encapsulates the more progressive side of house music, have now seen several releases over the last few years.
Midnight Manoeuvres the first from Derek’s Perspex People project seen release on Nic Conef’s legendary Manchester based label Mettle Music and was also licensed by Kinky Sweet and featured on the Frequent Flyer:Red Eye compilation.
